Interested students and parents — come to the Academy Orientation and Registration Meeting! Meet the Academy staff and other interested students and parents. Refreshments will be served.

The Eugene Opera Academy is open to high school students with an interest in any area of the performing arts. Whether your interest is performance, set design, costuming and makeup, lighting, music, marketing — you can think of the program as an “All Access Pass” to the process of production.

You will go backstage, meet with the technicians, the musicians, the chorus and the stars. You will have the opportunity to attend rehearsals and matinee performances, to sing in a master class and to develop a project following your personal interest. You will also have the opportunity to win a $500 scholarship to the educational institution of your choice after completion of high school. All students will receive a Certificate of Participation for use at schools and in academic/employment applications.

There are about 20 students in the Eugene Opera Academy program. Faculty include Eugene Opera’s Music Director Andrew Bisantz, artistic and technical staff, the local and international stars in our casts, local technical crew, and members of Eugene Opera’s Education Committee and Chorus.

Join us. Learn a lot. Have fun — and a unique and valuable educational experience!

Program fee: $30.00 for the whole season of 20+ events, including tickets to the matinee performances! (Some tuition scholarships are available.)

Tango Auditions @ Knights of Pythias

Eugene Opera is seeking intermediate and advanced social tango dancers for its upcoming production of Ástor Piazzolla’s tango operitaMaría de Buenos Aires. The performances will be May 4 and May 6 in the Soreng Theater at the Hult Center for the Performing Arts.

Local dancers will work with choreographer and dancer Fernanda Ghi for an intense week of preparation in advance of the full company arrival on April 26.

Auditions will be held on December 15 at Knights of Pythias, 420 West 12th Avenue in Eugene. Everyone interested should come at 7:00 pm and begin to social dance. 

Selected performers will be paid an honorarium of $200 for participation in the production. Artists must be available the following dates:

April 21 & 22 daytime

April 23-25 evenings

April 27 evening

April 28 & 29 daytime

April 30-May 3 evenings

Performance May 4 evening

Performance May 6 matinee

Principal Auditions

Eugene Opera announces auditions for managed and unmanaged Pacific Northwest and West Coast artists in Eugene on December 29. A pianist will be provided.

The company is casting artists for principal and comprimario roles, education and special events during its 2018-19 season. Artists should prepare a minimum of three arias in a variety of languages and styles, and are encouraged to include at least one musical theater selection.

Interested artists and/or managers should email resumes and audition requests to auditions@eugeneopera.com. Please submit materials no later than December 15 to be given priority consideration. There will be a $20 facility/pianist fee, payable at the time of the audition.

High School Teachers, Students, Parents: See Eugene Opera’s upcoming performance of Argentine composer Astor Piazzolla’s tango opera María de Buenos Aires for free! Eugene Opera is opening its dress rehearsal to all interested high school students and up to two chaperones per student. Thursday, May 3, 7:00-9:30 pm, Soreng Theater, Hult Center.

Educational/preparation materials will be provided.

Any high school student who wishes to attend must email RSVP@eugeneopera.com by April 30 with:

  • your name
  • the name of your school
  • and the names of up to two chaperones per student.

You must show your student ID to attend.

Transportation is not provided.
