Behind the Scenes in 2017-18
The Eugene Opera Academy is open to high school students with an interest in any area of the performing arts. Whether your interest is performance, set design, costuming and makeup, lighting, music, marketing — you can think of the program as an “All Access Pass” to the process of production.
You will go backstage, meet with the technicians, the musicians, the chorus and the stars. You will have the opportunity to attend rehearsals and matinee performances, to sing in a master class and to develop a project following your personal interest. You will also have the opportunity to win a $500 scholarship to the educational institution of your choice after completion of high school. All students will receive a Certificate of Participation for use at schools and in academic/employment applications.
There are about 20 students in the Eugene Opera Academy program. Faculty include Eugene Opera’s Artistic Director Andrew Bisantz, artistic and technical staff, the local and international stars in our casts, local technical crew, and members of Eugene Opera’s Education Committee and Chorus.
Join us. Learn a lot. Have fun — and a unique and valuable educational experience!
Program fee: $30.00 for the whole season of 20+ events, including tickets to the matinee performances! (Some tuition scholarships are available.)

Opera Camp for Teens
Eugene Opera held its first summer Opera Camp for Teens on August 22-24, 2017. It was a big success! In just 3 days, the participants put together a complete performance of a highly condensed version of Gilbert & Sullivan’s Pirates of Penzance. Click below to see excerpts from the performance on August 24 at the Applegate Regional Theatre in Veneta.
Plans are underway for another Opera Camp in 2018. Watch this space for more information!
