Eugene Opera Academy

Behind the Scenes in 2016-17

The Eugene Opera Academy is open to high school students with an interest in any area of the performing arts. Whether your interest is performance, set design, costuming and makeup, lighting, music, marketing — you can think of the program as an “All Access Pass” to the process of production.

You will go backstage, meet with the technicians, the musicians, the chorus and the stars. You will have the opportunity to attend rehearsals and matinee performances, to sing in a master class and to develop a project following your personal interest. You will also have the opportunity to win a $500 scholarship to the educational institution of your choice after completion of high school. All students will receive a Certificate of Participation for use at schools and in academic/employment applications.

There are about 20 students in the Eugene Opera Academy program. Faculty include Eugene Opera’s General Director Mark Beudert, Music Director Andrew Bisantz, Director of Education and Community Engagement Amy Adams, Chorus Master, Costume Designer, the local and international stars in our casts, local technical crew, and members of Eugene Opera’s Education Committee and Chorus.

Interested students and parents are invited to an Overview/Registration Meeting with refreshments at the opera office, 1590 Willamette Street, on Thursday, September 29, from 6:00 – 6:45 pm.

Join us. Learn a lot. Have fun — and a unique and valuable educational experience!

Program fee: $30.00 for the whole season of 20+ events, including tickets to the matinee performances! (Some tuition scholarships are available.)

To learn more, email Eugene Opera or call us at 541-485-3985.

Academy students will attend the following public events, in many cases with special Academy-only sessions before the event. In addition, the Academy includes many backstage and special events not open to the general public.
